I am most often engaged in qualitative research, focused in areas at the intersection of political geography and educational curriculum and instruction.
My longest term interests broadly look at civic and national identity development in youth populations. Within that, more recent work explores how curricula and instructional methods can or do influence a developing sense of civic identity and promoting civic engagement in the United States.
Previous work completed as part of graduate studies includes investigating how instructional language impacted the way young people in the Euskadi (Basque Country, Spain) engage with the world and the nuances surrounding everyday language negotiations. I continue to maintain an interest in policies and practices surrounding primary language of instruction in the primary and secondary levels, particularly regards to in promoting or preserving minority, indigenous, or endangered languages.
